The Ring of the Nibelung, Wagner, opera
This event has now finished

Monumental operas!
The Ring of the Nibelung is Wagner's Tetralogy comprising Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung.
The first opera composer to have written his own librettos to make the text to suit the musical form, Wagner also abolished the distinction between recitative and aria in favour of continuous melody.
In his operas, Wagner grants new importance to the orchestra, rendering it a full-fledged protagonist of the action.
The relation of song with the orchestra is almost reversed, so that one could say that the singers accompanied the orchestra. Orchestral high points abound in The Ring from the prelude, to Das Rheingold to the funeral march from Götterdämmerung.
