Confitería London City

Literary history in a landmark café.
Established in 1954, the Confitería London City (London City Tearoom) has always been popular with artists and politicians. It boasts an excellent location at the corner of avenida de Mayo and the avenida Hipólito Yrigoyen, right in the heart of Buenos Aires. The bar was renamed the City of London in tribute to two English shops that used to be close by, the "A la ciudad de Londres" and "Gath & Chaves".
For some, a visit to the London City Confitería is akin to a pilgrimage. Indeed, it was here that the writer Julio Cortázar used to come everyday in the 70's to work on his first novel Los premios (The Winners), now considered a masterpiece of Argentine literature.
Soak up the literary history in this landmark café, while sampling the handmade pastries.
